Leading indicator

A leading indicator is a data point that immediately signals the likelihood of feature success and the associated business outcomes.

Using leading indicators right after the initial release gives product teams a chance to convert dissatisfied customers into satisfied customers by using indicators to identify issues quickly.

There are six quantitative and qualitative leading indicators for B2B companies that predict future feature success:

Indicator Description Type
Awareness Are customers aware of the feature? Quantitative
Adoption After they’re aware, are customers trying it? Quantitative
Engagement Are customers using the feature as you intended? Quantitative
Satisfaction Are they happy with it? Do they want to continue using it? Quantitative
Feedback How can it be improved? Qualitative
Screen recordings Are customers using the feature as intended or should changes be made? Qualitative
